Although Apple offers OLED on iPhone screens, it could not do it on their computers. Relying on mini-LED technology today, the company seems to finally get the technology it has been demanding for a long time.
According to the new news shared by The Elec, Apple has officially signed an agreement with Samsung for the supply of OLED displays. The first details from the deal are that the first OLED-equipped MacBook will be the 13.3-inch MacBook Air.
OLED screens are coming to iPads too!
LG, which has been supplying screens to Apple for many years, will also contribute OLED to the company’s products. According to Elec’s claim, LG will not be able to produce screens for Apple’s MacBooks due to the capacity limit. But we’ll see LG’s OLED displays on the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pros.
Well, what will users gain with the OLED screen?
The mini-LED technology that Apple offers in today’s latest model computers allows us to see very high resolutions and color quality on already very small screens. But with OLED, Apple can make another big leap forward, especially in the display of colors.
Unlike mini-LED panels, OLED panels have self-igniting diodes. In mini-LED panels, the diodes are colored by the light of the LCD panel, which provides control according to the point where the light will appear.
The disappearance of this LCD panel also leads us to see full black colors and much higher levels of contrast.
There’s also the price part…
There is a fact: Devices with OLED panels carry a relatively more expensive price tag than devices with LED or mini-LED panels. It is currently unknown whether we will see a price increase with MacBooks with OLED.
