An updated roadmap featuring the AMD AM5 desktop socket was shared by the company during the latest Meet The Expert broadcast. AMD has also confirmed that it will use the existing AM5 socket that it brought with the Ryzen 7000 series for a long time. In other words, the company will not make any socket changes in the near future.

Ryzen 8000 comes with RDNA3.5

The new roadmap lists the Ryzen 8000 series, which includes the Zen5 and Navi 3.5 architectures. These architectures were not previously specified by AMD as a single product. According to the statements, AMD’s next-generation APU silicon, codenamed “Strix Point”, will have 40 CUs with RDNA3.5 architecture. This roadmap confirms that these products will also come to desktop computers. In addition, AMD also states for the first time that it will keep the AM5 socket until at least 2026.

On the other hand, it is equally interesting to mention Zen4 and Navi 3.0 for the Ryzen 7000 desktop. As we know, it only uses units with RDNA2 architecture in the current Ryzen 7000 series integrated graphics unit. So, this year we are likely to see an AM5 socket processor with Navi 3.0 (aka RDNA3). One product comes to mind to enable RDNA3 for the AM5 socket, and that is the Phoenix APU family currently in use for high-end laptops.

AMD hasn’t previously confirmed its plans for the Ryzen 8000, but the company has stated that it will launch its next-gen CPU core architecture in three variants: Zen5, Zen5c, and Zen5 with 3D V-Cache. According to the company, this product family will use 4nm and 3nm nodes.
