The Bellatrix upgrade on the Ethereum network is set to be activated on September 6. Completion will take place between 10-20 September.
The Ethereum Foundation has announced the official date for the long-awaited Merge upgrade. As the first phase, the Bellatrix upgrade will be activated on September 6th. This upgrade will kickstart the rest of the merge into action.
The Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) that triggers Merge will be 58,750,000,000,000,000,000,000. This TTD is expected to be reached between 10 and 20 September. Ethereum developers have stated in their previous statement that they are targeting September 15-16.
During this time the difficulty will increase to the point where proof-of-work is no longer possible.
When TTD reaches 58,750,000,000,000,000,000,000, the network will merge the execution layer with the new consensus layer and transition to proof-of-stake will be achieved.
The Merge upgrade comes after many separate trials on multiple testnets such as Ropsten, Sepolia, and Goerli.
