According to new data, Microsoft Edge continues to slowly but surely come to terms with Firefox, the web browser of the years. According to the latest figures from StatCounter, Microsoft Edge managed to increase its market share from 3.77% at the end of September to 3.99% in October. Compared to this time of last year, the share of the browser has roughly tripled.
Meanwhile, Mozilla’s web browser, Firefox, has lost market share in eight of the last twelve months, and is currently only 3.66%.
Microsoft Edge surpassed Firefox by a very small margin for the first time in May. However, this small difference has continued to increase slowly but surely since then.
Since its launch in January 2020, the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge has had good reviews thanks to a series of upgrades that streamline the user experience. Another factor contributing to Edge’s growth is that Microsoft is using all its means to redirect users to the new web browser.
After that, it doesn’t look like it will be easy. For Edge to continue growing, it now needs to grab users from Chrome. Recent signs suggest that the company is striving for just that.
Still, Microsoft Edge certainly has a long way to go before it poses a real threat to Google Chrome, which dominates 65% of the market, and Apple Safari, which dominates 19%.
