Support for end-to-end encrypted messaging makes WhatsApp an ideal platform for sharing sensitive information without worrying about third-party interception of content. The only annoyance was that your WhatsApp backups were not encrypted in the cloud, which was a security risk. Meta fixed this in September 2021 and enabled password-protected encrypted WhatsApp backups in Google Drive. However, if you don’t change your phone often, you can forget this password. To ensure this doesn’t happen, WhatsApp will now occasionally remind you to enter the password.

If the password is not entered, the application will not be used.

WABetaInfo reports that many WhatsApp users are prompted to enter the 64-digit key or password of their end-to-end encrypted backups after updating to the latest version of the app. You will not be able to use the application unless you enter the password or turn off encrypted backups.

This feature acts as a reminder to ensure you don’t forget the encrypted backup password. Unlike your Google or Facebook account, there’s also no “Forgot Password” option that you can use to regain access to your encrypted WhatsApp chat history.
