With the awareness of many users and the success of data scandals, Google began to take serious measures for data security. One of these measures was the “Data security” section, which shows the Play Store what data the app collects and shares, and also includes information about security practices.
But today came a much more important decision from the data security department. Google has mandated app developers to provide the option for users to permanently delete their account and data at any time.
The change that will be reflected in the Play Store:
- There will be a direct link to the developers’ website for account and data deletion, informative articles about the process.
Google’s new obligation to developers will apply to any app that has an account. In addition, a user who wants to delete an account will not have to make this request only through the application. Google will also ask developers to set up a website for this request.
The address of this website established by the developers will be displayed to users in the Play Store. Thus, users will be able to avoid actions such as re-downloading the application to delete their account or spending more time in the application without deleting it.
Of course, such a big change will put some difficulties, especially for independent developers. Therefore, the planned changes will not take effect from today. Google wants them to add more information about the data deletion process to their app pages as a first step to change by December 7 at the latest.
Starting from the first months of 2024, we will begin to see the change concretely. The links and descriptions seen in the photo above will be available in the app store. On the other hand, developers who cannot reach December 7 will be able to request an extension until May 31, 2024.
