A new record came soon after the news this week that the USA took the lead in the supercomputer race with a peak of 1.1 Exaflops. In fact, China was expected to break the new record, but the competition is heating up.
Venado supercomputer is coming
The supercomputer named Venado, developed by Los Alamos national laboratory, is based on Nvidia Gace processors and Nvidia Hopper graphics architectures. In total, 10 Exflops can reach peak values.
When is GeForce RTX 4090 coming?
ARM v9, based on the architecture of cores such as Cortex X2 and A-710 in current flagship ARM chipsets, Grace has two processors. In total, 144 customized ARM cores are obtained.
Hopper-based H100 unit, produced by TSMC in the 4nm process, is the first HBM 3 memory and graphics unit using PCIe 5.0. The unit, which offers external connection speeds as 5Tb/s, reaches 3TB/s bandwidth.
Venado actually uses the HPE Cray EX platform like its other competitors. HPE offers different cabinet options with AMD EPYC processors and Instinct accelerators, giving customers the opportunity to build supercomputers. In the new period, Nvidia will include Grace and Hopper chips in the options. The Venado supercomputer is still in development and will be completed in the coming years. Again, the Swiss Supercomputer Center started to prepare a new system with Nvidia chips.
