Despite the US embargoes, China’s appetite for independent chips is increasing. TSMC is trying to gain experience quickly by transferring managers with higher salaries from chip giants such as Samsung and Intel.
Big transfer from Nvidia
Chinese artificial intelligence chips designer Biren Technology, founded in 2019, has acquired Yang Chaoyuan, Nvidia’s vice president of R&D operations in China.
Biren Technology, which designs general purpose graphics chips for artificial intelligence had developed its first chip in the 7nm process last year. Having completed its $170 million investment round, the Biren startup needs more to advance the 7nm process.
Yang Chaoyuan was the person who launched Nvidia’s first overseas operations. Apart from Nvidia, there are important chip giants such as TSMC in its 35-year history. Chaoyuan will again serve as vice president and also as an advisor to the CEO.
