The arrival of DLSS 3.5, Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 update and truly huge improvements in the Phantom Liberty expansion pack have made the future of games even clearer. With the new AI-powered Ray Reconstruction technology, we are now at a point where DLSS can deliver image quality noticeably superior to native resolution in some scenes. On the other hand, Nvidia has already started dreaming about DLSS 10.0 and what it can do.

Nvidia sees DLSS as the future of gaming

DLSS 3.5 delivers an image with much less noise, improves reflection quality, provides clearer details in shadows and ambient lighting, and better RT lighting effects. However, Nvidia Vice President of Applied Deep Learning Research, Bryan Catanzaro, made some inferences about the future of DLSS. Catanzaro thinks DLSS 10 will be the full neural processing system that interfaces with the game engine. Of course, this is nothing more than foresight, but it is important in terms of vision.

So what is the complete neural processing system? Like Frame Rendering, Beam Reconstruction, and other rendering tools and technologies that are part of Nvidia DLSS today, a complete system means AI takes care of and renders everything you see on the screen.

Bryan Catanzaro highlights a driving demo the company shared in 2018. In the video, the game engine generates information such as where objects are located and what they are, which is then fed to a neural network that manages every part of the rendering process. Based on this video, Catanzaro says: “Running this in real time in 2018 was a visionary thing. The image quality we got was definitely not something close to Cyberpunk 2077, but I think in the long run the graphics card industry is heading in this direction.”

The result can be greater realism and detail in 3D environments thanks to artificial intelligence; An entire scene can be created from just one input. Catanzaro notes that AI is another tool for artists, writers, and designers to work with and help them turn their visions into reality. As for DLSS 10, it will make a game “more immersive and more beautiful,” just like DLSS 3.5 did with Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty.
