Atari, which had a big break with its first commercial video game “Pong”, then conquered the hearts of gamers with unforgettable classics such as “Space Invaders” and “Pac-Man”. Now, the company has announced the Atari 2600+ game console.
Atari 2600+ announced
Atari has signed with Plaion for a new retro console. The Atari 2600+ is based on the 1980 model. Both Atari 2600 and 7800 games can be played on this console. Although the console is only 80 percent the size of the first version, it has been redesigned to have the same features as the original.
The console’s features include an HDMI output and widescreen support. The company says the system has an enlarged cartridge socket to reduce cartridge jamming. The Atari logo light turns on when the device is turned on.
The system includes the CX40+, a modern version of the classic CX40 joystick. Although it supports two players, it only comes with a game controller. The company said that a controller called the CX-30 is also on the way.
The system’s free games are available in the “10 Games in 1” cartridge, including Adventure, Combat, Dodge ‘Em, Haunted House, Maze Craze, Missile Command, RealSports Volleyball, Surround, Video Pinball and Yars’ Revenge. The full list of console compatible cartridges has been published.
The Atari 2600+ will be released worldwide on November 17 for $130. You’ll have to pay another $25 for an optional second controller. Starting today, the possibility to pre-order is available on the platform’s site.

The company’s products, such as the Pong and Atari 2600, greatly enhanced the entertainment industry from the 1970s to the mid-1980s.
