It seems like X literally wants us to forget about Twitter. Users started seeing pop-ups when they entered X about the new terms of service terms that will go into effect on September 29th. In the new conditions, it seems that the word ‘tweet’ has completely become history.

No tweets, just posts

According to the updated terms of service, tweets will now be called posts and retweets will be called reposts. There are also a number of other brand changes in the new terms, including an almost wholesale removal of the word “Twitter” in favor of X. I say almost wholesale because, hilariously, most of the URLs in the terms still seem to have to include the word “twitter”, as in this link to a developer-focused website: https://developer.x.com/en/docs/ twitter-for-websites. At the same time, references to Periscope, the live broadcast application that Twitter closed in 2021, were also removed.

There are also a few other updates to the terms. One of them says that by using X, you “also waive your right to participate as a plaintiff or class member in any so-called class action, class action, or representative action, to the extent permitted by law.” Another change is made regarding data scraping.

Current conditions say:

“NOTE: Crawling of the Services may be permitted if done in accordance with the terms of the robots.txt file, but scraping the Services without our prior consent is expressly prohibited”

The new terms say:

“NOTE: Scanning or scraping the Services in any way, for any purpose, without our prior written consent is expressly prohibited”

X also plans to implement a new privacy policy on September 29. This new policy aims to greatly expand the volume of data X collects about users, including biometric data and employment history.
