NFC technology continues to be a part of our lives, from shopping to payments, especially smartphones. So much so that if you have a smartphone that supports NFC, you can easily perform many operations such as transferring media, contacts, paying, using a bus card. The NFC Forum, now used by Sony, NXP Semiconductors, and Nokia, has shared a roadmap for the future of NFC. Let’s take a look at the capabilities that NFC will gain.

NFC technology gains new capabilities

The NFC Forum, which recently included representatives of Apple and Google, summarized the developments in NFC technology in the next two to five years. At the forefront of these goals is that the technology, which currently operates within a small distance, will offer four to six times greater coverage in the future. Thus, while speeding up operations, it will save users from the need for meticulous alignment.

Increased charging speeds and new features

Another milestone in NFC technology will be the development of wireless charging features via NFC. The group aims to increase the current wireless power and charging capacity from 1W to 3W. Such an upgrade could enable wireless charging for smaller devices.

In addition to these improvements, the Forum says multi-purpose functional features are on the way, allowing it to perform multiple actions with a single tap. This feature can also open up opportunities for new and exciting applications. Although these innovations are exciting, it should be noted that a clear date has not been shared by the NFC Forum. Therefore, we can say that it will take some time for these advances to become reality and find their way into everyday devices.
