WWDC22 event, which is expected to introduce iOS 16, is approaching. On the one hand, Apple continues to adjust the iOS 15 operating system. iOS 15.3, the third major update of iOS 15, was released in January, followed by an intermediate version of iOS 15.3.

As it is known, Apple stops signing the previous version after releasing a new iOS update. This means that users will not be able to revert to the old version. The technology giant did not break the tradition this time.

Not possible to rollback to iOS 15.3

As of today, signing of iOS 15.3 version has been stopped for all supported models including iPhone 13 series. Thus, the company has officially prevented iPhone users from reverting to an older version than iOS 15.3.

Apple’s decision means that users who have upgraded their iPhone to iOS 15.3. However, there is no disadvantage for iPhone owners who already have iOS 15.3 or earlier installed on their phone. So if you haven’t installed the last update released on February 11, you have nothing to worry about.

Apple has also stopped signing iPadOS 15.3. This means that supporting iPads cannot be officially downgraded to a version prior to iPadOS 15.3.

The reason Apple shut down the rollback: to protect users from exploits that could compromise privacy and security. New iOS updates don’t just bring new features to the iPhone. It also fixes security issues detected in the current version. Thus, while your operating system remains up-to-date, you are not deprived of security.

When iOS 15.3.1 was released, Apple informed users that it “includes important security updates for your iPhone and fixes an issue that could cause Braille displays to stop responding.” Fixed a WebKit bug that allowed maliciously crafted web content to lead to arbitrary code execution.
