With the local elections held in the United States this week, many new administrators began to prepare to start their new administration in January. One of these executives was the new Mayor of New York, Eric Adams. Adams signed off on something that would make a name for himself before he came to power.
Adams stated on Bloomberg’s radio show that he wants to launch a city-owned cryptocurrency. Separately, Adams announced on Twitter that New York will become the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing innovative industries. He also announced that he will receive all of his first three salaries as Mayor of New York in Bitcoin.
Eric Adams will not be the first executive in the US to receive a salary in Bitcoin:
Eric Adams was not the first mayor in the United States to take important actions towards the cryptocurrency industry. Francis Saurez, who was elected as the Mayor of Miami in the elections, had mentioned similar projects in his post just three days ago. Saurez said that he wanted to issue a cryptocurrency belonging to his own city, and announced that he would receive his first salary as mayor in Bitcoin.
Before all of this, when we turn to 2019, we come across another project of the New York Economic Development Unit. The unit had set up a blockchain hub in Manhattan. However, according to Bloomberg’s report, the center’s site is not working today and no one comes to their phones.
