The rise of foldable models continues in today’s smartphone market. However, there is still uncertainty about the longevity and durability of these devices. Hardware requirements for foldable phones on the way

According to newly shared reports, Google wants to offer some assurances for the durability of future foldable devices. So much so that these will include minimal folding cycles, hinge durability and system updates. Accordingly, the new foldables are expected to withstand at least 200,000 folding and unfolding operations.

Thus, five years of support will be provided when it is opened at least 100 times a day, and ten years when it is opened 50 times a day. In addition, 80 percent of the hinge strength will need to be maintained after 200,000 cycles.

Another requirement is on the update side. According to insider information, Google plans to make at least two major operating systems and at least three years of security updates mandatory for foldable phones. Let us remind you that companies such as Google, Samsung and Oppo already offer security support for up to five years. Therefore, the requirements are absolutely not stringent.
