Netflix plans to live stream upcoming improv dramas and comedy specials. Netflix does not deny that it is working on this system, but it is clear that it is still in the early stages of development.
Deadline says the technology could be used to conduct live voting on competitive shows like the sets for the upcoming Dance 100 and the annual Netflix Is A Joke festival, among other examples. However, no date has been given for the new feature yet.
The Wall Street Journal also reported Friday that the company recently updated its culture guidelines, adding a new section titled “artistic expression.” This section tells potential employees that they may need to work on projects that may not be aligned with their values.
The company states in the document: “Not everyone will love or accept everything on our service… and we’re letting viewers decide what’s right for them, against Netflix censoring certain artists or voices. Depending on your role, you may need to work on topics that you consider harmful. If you’re having trouble supporting our breadth of content, Netflix might not be the best place for you”
Netflix told The Journal that it has spent the last 18 months discussing cultural issues with employees. The company says it’s tweaking the guidelines to help job seekers “make more informed decisions about whether Netflix is the right company for them.”
