Instagram has started to roll out automatically generated captions while combining its videos in a single app. Subtitles will be automatically enabled for all videos, but users can disable it if they wish.
Auto-generated captions are gradually rolling out to all users on Instagram. These subtitles seem to help users who prefer to watch videos with the sound off.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that this feature has been requested by users for a long time. The new system not only makes adding subtitles to videos incredibly easy, but also helps hearing impaired users.
Currently, auto-generated subtitles are supported in 17 languages. These include English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Vietnamese, Italian, German, Turkish, Russian, Thai, Tagalog, Urdu, Malay, Hindi, Indonesian and Japanese. Instagram also stated that it will gradually add more languages.
