The Pokémon Company International has announced several seasonal updates for Pokémon UNITE, dedicated to the celebration of the New Year. These updates include the new Shivre City Snowball Battle and new year celebration in-game challenges and surprises that will start on December 15, 2021 and run until January 16, 2022.

New Pokémon Enter the Arena—Tsareena and Dragonite Coming Soon to Pokémon UNITE
The New Year celebrations begin today with the addition of Tsareena to Pokémon UNITE’s ever-expanding roster of Pokémon. The versatile Pokémon Tsareena offers Trainers new tactical opportunities and methods, as well as new moves like Tropical Kick and Grass Shift that will bring a breath of fresh air to strategic team play. In addition, players will be able to get Tsareena’s free Unite license by entering the game and checking their in-game mail until December 31, 2021.
Trainers will also be able to soar with the launch of the new playable Pokémon Dragonite on December 20, 2021. Follow the official Pokémon channels for more information and a first look at Dragonite.
Prepare for the New Year Celebrations with Shivre City Snowball Fight
From December 15, 2021 to January 16, 2022, any Pokémon knocked out in quick matches will turn into snowmen. Although frozen and unable to move, snowmen waiting to be revived will be able to share tactical information with their teammates.
Moreover, players will receive a gift box when they defeat the Delivery Pokémon Delibird. Inside each gift box there will be one random match item to replace players’ existing items. With constantly changing and unpredictable encounters, players will need to stay alert.
Besides the New Year’s celebrations-specific events we mentioned, the wild Pokémon in the center of Shivre City will transform into Articuno two minutes after the match starts. This will present players with a new challenge to overcome.
During the event, Trainers and Pokémon will also be able to get into a celebratory mood with their skins, thanks to new Hologiysi and fashion items.
Don’t Miss Login Bonuses and Special Challenges
In addition to the Shivre City Snowball Battle, the Lighting Challenge will also await Trainers from November 15, 2021 to January 16, 2022. Players will need to equip the Christmas tree in the lobby with lights collected from daily quests (up to 100 per day) and lights from combat missions (up to 750 per combat mission). Decorative items and bonuses can be unlocked with collected lights. These include a 1-Day Limited License: Ninetales of Alola, new Trainer fashion items, and other Christmas-themed decorations (each item requires a different number of lights to unlock).
Also, from December 24, 2021 to January 6, 2022, players will be able to enjoy the new Photo Challenge by collecting snowflakes and completing seasonal artworks. Snowflakes can be collected by fighting in standard matches, quick matches, ranked matches, and Shivre City Snowball Battle.
From November 24, 2021 to January 1, 2022, players will be able to receive daily gifts by logging into Pokémon UNITE. These gifts will include Aeos tickets and item developers, as well as a limited number of special gifts for players to choose their favourites.
To celebrate the new year, for the first three days of 2022 (from January 1 to January 3), players will be able to access all Unite licenses in the game and play with all Pokémon in the game (except ranked matches). This is the perfect opportunity for new players and experienced players returning to the game to showcase their skills against other players by trying Pokémon they haven’t tried before.
