Apple is investing heavily in the M2 processor and offers huge power boosts with each new version of the processor. So much so that the next Mac Pro is said to come with chip options that are “at least 2 or 4 times more powerful” compared to the yet-to-be-released M2 Max. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has stepped up testing of the high-end Mac, which is expected to launch next year.
In his Power On bulletin, Gurman says the machine will have new and more powerful chips called “M2 Ultra” and “M2 Extreme”. These 2 variants contain 24 and 48 CPU cores, 76 and 152 GPU cores, and 256GB of memory, respectively. These figures compare to the base M2, which comes with 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores, and the M2 Max, which is said to contain 12 CPU cores and 38 GPU cores.
Gurman also shares a Mac Pro configuration that he says is currently in testing at Apple. According to the information, this machine; It will come with 24 CPU cores, 76 GPU cores and 192 GB of memory. Claiming to run macOS Ventura 13.3, the first version of which will be released on Monday, Gurman claims that Apple last released the $5,999 Mac Pro in 2019 and will renew Apple silicon.
It looks like there will be other bombs ahead before the Mac Pro launch. We expect the introduction of the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max options, as well as the Mac Mini, which Gurman says will come with the same M2 chip as the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. Apple is expected to introduce these devices in the coming months.
