READING NOW New leaks have emerged about Sony’s next flagship phone, the Xperia 1 IV. The most interesting thing is about the name of the phone…

Thanks to some newly revealed leaks, we now know better what to expect from the Sony Xperia 1 IV. These leaks include the price of the phone, the charging speed it can offer, and a possible name change.

According to the news published by Notebookcheck.net, the list of rumors actually begins with a tip on Chinese social network Weibo suggesting that one of the 2022 Xperia models has been cancelled. The canceled model is unlikely to be the high-end Xperia 1 IV, but it could be the Xperia 5 IV or Xperia 10 IV.

Then comes a claim from the same source that this might not be the name of the Xperia 1 IV. Sony’s latest naming strategy on its phones can be a bit confusing, so if there is a model name change, it can be predicted that models will move towards a simpler naming strategy.

Also in the US (via Reddit), there is information from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulatory filings that the new phone will support 30W fast charging just like the Xperia 1 III. The battery capacity is said to have increased from 4,500 mAh to 5,000 mAh.

Finally, there’s also a new estimate on pricing: @TheGalox_ says we’re expecting between $1,400 and $1,600, but that will depend in part on the region. The Xperia 1 III’s starting price was $1,300 in the US.

As always, it’s best to treat these rumors with some skepticism until an official statement comes from Sony. The Xperia 1 III was released in April 2021, so we may not have to wait too long to see what the sequel will bring…
