Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, is expected to be released early next year. Months before its announcement, many of its features were revealed through leaks and various news reports. A new rumor also claims to reveal the camera features of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series phones have been offering a dedicated 10MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom for the last three years. Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra have a maximum optical zoom of 10x. However, Samsung may make its decision confusing by lowering this number. Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. If that’s the case, we could see a drop from 10x optical zoom to 5x optical zoom on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The leaker says that the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 50MP telephoto camera uses a 1/2.52-inch sensor with 0.7μm pixels. This is similar to the telephoto camera found on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. However, Xiaomi 13 Ultra also uses the same sensor for its 3.2x optical zoom camera. This means that Samsung will no longer be superior in zoom performance. Of course, it would be fair to wait until the Galaxy S24 Ultra is released and check its performance.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to have a 200MP ISOCELL HP2X primary camera sensor with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus, and a 12MP selfie camera. It is also said to have a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120Hz refresh rate and 2,500 nits peak brightness, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB RAM and up to 2TB storage. Other features include a titanium frame, two-way satellite emergency connectivity, and an IP68 rating.
