iPhone users who are YouTube Premium subscribers get a number of new features. Thus, YouTube now offers iPhone users even more reasons to switch to the paid subscription option.
According to a blog post, one of the new YouTube Premium features is the addition of SharePlay. First available with iOS 15.1, this feature allows two or more users to listen to music, watch movies or exercise together during a FaceTime call. With YouTube Premium, you’ll soon be able to watch a YouTube video with someone over FaceTime.
Another interesting feature is an improved bitrate in 1080p HD quality. YouTube states that all users will still have access to 1080p streaming, but Premium users will get an “extra crisp and clear” image for videos with a lot of detail and movement.
YouTube Premium also introduces the Smart Download feature. When you’re connected to Wi-Fi, the app will suggest downloading videos directly to your library so they’re ready to watch offline wherever you want. “We understand that our users may not always be connected to the internet, but that doesn’t mean it should stop your YouTube Premium experience,” the press release says.
YouTube Premium will also begin offering cross-platform support for watching videos. That means you can start and pause a video on your iPhone and resume it on Android or the web. YouTube says this function lets you go back to the video without interruption.
These features will be gradually rolled out over the coming weeks for YouTube Premium users using iPhones.
