Meta continues to develop new features for the chat app WhatsApp. These new features have been discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta builds but are not yet widely available. Only select beta users seem to have received these features, but that’s enough to give you an idea of what kind of features might become generally available in the future.

Possibility to share from WhatsApp to Facebook

First off, WhatsApp beta version 2.23.9.13 for Android adds an option for users to share status updates directly from WhatsApp to Facebook stories. While this is already possible, with the new beta update the whole process is automated through a new option that says “Always share to Facebook story”.

As reported via WaBetaInfo, another new feature spotted in a recent WhatsApp beta build is a privacy control screen. The feature, which was released to certain testers in WhatsApp beta version 2.23.9.15, aims to help users better understand and manage their privacy settings.

The dashboard allows users to choose who can contact them, control access to personal information, make chats more private and enable more account protection tools.

Apart from these WhatsApp beta features available to certain users through the latest versions for the Android operating system, another interesting tool was found in the beta builds for WhatsApp for iOS.

It looks like Meta is planning to bring a one-way newsletter-like channel delivery system to WhatsApp. In addition, the “Status” tab of the application seems to have undergone a change and turned into the “Updates” tab. As reported via ZDNet, users can forward messages and view statuses in this tab. Channel members can only receive messages and cannot reply to messages.

It can be predicted that the new additions to the iOS app will probably not remain iOS-only, but they may be made available for the Android app at a later date. Of course, as there’s no way to say for sure how future beta releases will evolve, we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out what features will go through testing and become generally available, and when those updates will be released…
