If you’re regularly running out of storage space on your Android phone, help is on the way: Google has announced a new auto-archiving feature for Android apps.
The new feature announced promises to allow you to free up about 60 percent of storage without deleting the app or your user data. Developers will need to add this feature to their apps for the new feature to work.
The new feature will appear when you try to install a new app on an Android device that has run out of storage space. If you accept the option, all unused apps will be automatically archived to make room for the new app.
You will be able to tell which apps are automatically archived via a cloud icon that will appear above the app’s original icon – as you can see below. Google says Android will start by archiving the apps you use most infrequently, so it’s easier to make room for new ones.
