Since the release of the Android 16 Developer Preview last November, many interesting new features have emerged. According to the Android 16 beta version, the mobile operating system will offer many new features from sound sharing to notification management.
Of course, Google continues to add new features to the operating system. For example, at Android 16, it may be planning to offer a new way to trigger the screen protector. The Android screen saver is currently triggered when the device is only charging or placed in the charging slot.
Android usually rely on the information of “dock” (nest) to determine whether the device is attached to the charge. It transmits data on types of nests such as nest, automobile, table, analog or digital where the device is installed. The table charging stand can trigger a screen protector, but many charging stands are not considered “Dock” and therefore do not trigger the screen protector.
To solve this problem, Google can use a new way to trigger the screen protector using the device’s posture. In this method, a device that stands upright and charging can automatically trigger the screen protector.
Although this screen protector setting is not yet available, some lines identified by Mishaal Rahman, Android Authority’s reliable study of Android 16 beta 2, show that it is being worked on this feature by referring to the posture of the device.
Since the stands are often used actively by Android phones, this screen saver trigger can be made especially for mobile phones. However, these lines that control the posture of the device can also work on Android tablets.
Considering that these lines are seen in Android 16 Beta 2, the feature is likely to be included in the stable version to be published in the second quarter of 2025.
