Renault is among the largest automobile companies in the world. The company includes manufacturers such as Dacia and Lada. In addition, Renault has partnerships with Japanese automakers Nissan and Mitsubishi. In this way, companies can produce cars on common platforms.
Renault recently announced that it will bid farewell to cars with internal combustion engines by 2030. After this announcement, the company will allegedly announce a new investment plan for electric cars with Nissan and Mitsubishi.
Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi will invest 20 billion euros!
The Franco-Japanese alliance will announce a 20 billion euro ($23 billion) investment plan for the development of electric cars on Thursday, according to people familiar with the investment plan of the tripartite alliance. This amount will be in addition to the 10 billion euro investment that the strong alliance has spent to date.
Allegedly, the Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi partnership will produce 5 joint electric car platforms by 2030. More than 30 models supported by these platforms are planned to be released by companies by 2030. The models to be produced on this platform will constitute 90 percent of the electric cars produced by the companies.
The company has developed 4 platforms to date, including the CMF-EV platform used by Renault Megane Electric and Nissan Ariya. One of these platforms is the one with Dacia Spring, while the remaining two are developed for light commercial vehicles. The tools developed on these platforms were loved by the users.
In addition, automakers are expected to introduce their 5th joint platform in the middle of the next 10 years. This platform will allegedly be called CMFB-EV and will be designed by Renault. This platform will feature the Nissan Micra EV and a fully electric Renault 5. Additionally, an SUV inspired by the Renault 4L could use this platform.
In addition, companies will try to keep the prices of the new cars they will produce the same as the gasoline cars in the same segment. They plan to achieve this by jointly developing solid-state lithium-ion battery technology and other components developed by Nissan. Under the plan, the alliance will invest in France, the UK, China and Japan to produce a total of 220 GWh of battery capacity.
