TUSAŞ Engine Industry General Manager Mahmur Faruk Akşit talked about the work carried out by TEI (TUSAŞ Engine Industry) in his speech at the Denizli Chamber of Industry. Meanwhile, important developments in the engine of the national warplane were also shared.

TEI showed its new engines

In the presentation, two new engines that TEI is developing are seen: PD-300H and MTU 892Xa. According to the presentation visual, TEI PD-300H will have 305 hp power. This engine is significantly more powerful than the last PD-222 turbodiesel engine developed by TEI with 225 hp. The dimensions of the engine will be similar to the previous ones.

It is expected that PD-300H will be used in TAI’s ANKA and AKSUNGUR UCAVs, and the flight altitude and payload capacities of both UCAVs will increase thanks to the overall power increase. A more powerful engine will also allow for greater power generation capacity. Since AKSUNGUR and AKINCI will be used in the İHA SOJ unmanned electronic warfare aircraft project, higher electricity production is very important to power electronic warfare systems.

More powerful engines can also shorten the take-off distance of UAVs from short-runway ships such as TCG ANADOLU LHD or provide the necessary power for a safer flight. The shortened take-off distance is vital for operations from such ships with short runways. In the presentation visual, it can be seen that TEI has also developed a new tank engine called MTU 892Xa. It is stated that this tank engine will have a power of 1360 hp.

Latest developments in the engine of the national combat aircraft KAAN

In his statements, Faruk Akşit said that they will produce and operate TEI-TF6000 this year. Explaining that TEI-TF6000 is a real military turbofan engine, Akşit stated that it is a warplane engine, albeit small-scale. TEI-TF6000, designed and developed by TEI, will be a stepping stone on the path to KAAN’s domestic engine. Akşit said, “We are going step by step. “TEI-TF6000 and TEI-TF10000 are learning engines for us,” he said.

This 6 thousand or 10 thousand pound engine without afterburner can be used in many ways both in Kızılelma, Anka-3, TAI’s newly developed UAV, and if necessary, in fast national attack boats.

On the other hand, the tender process for the engine of the National Combat Aircraft has been completed. Currently, the number of engineers dealing with this engine at TEI has exceeded 200 since last year. The knowledge gained with the TEI-TF6000 and TEI-TF10000 engines will pave the way to KAAN’s engine. However, of course, when it comes to aviation, developing an engine from scratch is a very difficult and complicated task. You really need to go step by step. Because a mistake in the design can cause serious disruptions in the project.
