ARM, a widely recognized name in the tech industry, plans to manufacture chips on its own for a variety of products, including mobile phones and laptops. According to published reports, ARM will collaborate with Intel to produce processors for mobile devices.
Agreement with Intel: ARM enters mobile processor market
One of the first products of the new engineering group created by ARM is said to be still in the prototype stage. In the statement made by the industry executives, it was stated that the processors produced by ARM will outperform their competitors.
It is also stated that the company has no intention of selling or licensing the prototype processor, but that may change once it enters qualification sampling. It is estimated that the company will remain as a core supplier to other chip manufacturers until it completes its own chip.
Intel recently announced that they will work with ARM to manufacture mobile-focused and other chips with ARM architecture in their own factories. Intel, which mainly produces x86 chipsets, has completed its preparations to enter the mobile world with ARM.
Intel and ARM recently signed an agreement to manufacture the next generation mobile SoC using the 18A compute node. The Intel 18A compute node is not expected to enter a full-fledged production cycle until 2024-2025. However, it is speculated that the company will use this process for its own products before moving it to other customers.
It is included in the published report that the processors will use a new ARM architecture designed from the ground up by the new team. It is stated that the company targets mobile devices such as smartphones and laptops.
