New information has emerged about Apple’s next Mac Pro. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will officially unveil the high-end Mac Pro next year. Gurman also states that the Mac Pro will have a much more powerful version than the M2 Max processor, which has not yet been released.

Gurman states in the Power On news release that the new Mac Pro will come with processor options “at least two or four times more powerful” than the unreleased M2 Max. These processors are also said to be called M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme.

M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme will be very powerful

The news source also refers to the features of these processors. The aforementioned M2 Ultra is expected to have 76 GPUs and 24 CPU cores and come with 256GB of memory. The more powerful M2 Extreme will have 152 GPU cores and 48 CPU cores, as well as the same 256GB of memory. For comparison, the regular M2 processor was based on 8 CPU and 10 GPU cores. The M2 Max, which has not yet been released, is said to have 12 CPUs and 38 GPU cores.

Gurman also shares a Mac Pro configuration that he says is currently being tested at Apple. It is reported that the device under test has 24 CPU cores, 76 GPU cores and 192 GB of memory, and runs on macOS Ventura 13.3, the first version of which was released on Monday.

Apple last launched the Mac Pro for $5,999 in 2019, so the latest Mac Pro could be priced similarly or higher. However, before the next Mac Pro launches, new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max options, Mac Mini with M2 processors, MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro models will hit the shelves.
