Popular video sharing platform YouTube, with its announcement in November, went through a radical change in the dislike button. The company stated that some content producers were attacked via the dislike button, and therefore decided to hide the number of dislikes for all videos on the platform.
YouTube made this decision to protect content creators, but many viewers were not happy about it. Because the dislike button gave more or less an idea of the quality / usefulness of a content and was one of the most important ways to react to the video.
YouTube videos can be reacted with emojis
“Timed Reactions” feature has started to be tested as an alternative to the dislike button on YouTube videos. When the feature becomes available, emojis such as laughter, heart, smiley, surprise, and similar emojis can be dropped for a certain second of a video, and viewers will be able to see the total reactions in the comments.

Timed responses are not available for all videos as they are in testing. If you come across a video where the feature is activated, you can leave an emoji by touching the reaction panel that will appear when you open the comment section. In the same panel, the total reactions for that minute of the video will also be publicly visible.
YouTube said in its statement on the subject, “We know the community is important to you, so we are committed to delivering more features that strengthen the sense of community on YouTube. Have fun with the timed reactions and let us know what you think in the comments.” He said and stated that he will make the new feature available to the general public in a short time.
