Apple updated its Mac Pro product, which it introduced in 2019, with the new M2 Ultra, as part of this year’s WWDC. Preserving its design, the Mac Pro was introduced earlier this month, but went on sale a while ago. However, this high-end device apparently entered the market with a hard drive problem.

unexpected problem

In a support page update released the other day, Apple said that some SATA hard drives may unexpectedly disconnect from the 2023 Mac Pro after the computer wakes up from sleep. Apple said it is “aware of this issue” and will fix it “in a future macOS update.” While the Mac Pro is configured with SSD storage, it has SATA ports for connecting internal hard drives and some may disconnect due to an error.

“This can happen when your Mac automatically goes to sleep or when you put your Mac to sleep manually,” Apple said in a statement. If you see a message that your disk was not ejected properly, you can restart your Mac to reconnect to the drive.” used his statements.

For now, Apple states that as a workaround, Mac Pros can be prevented from automatically going to sleep by opening the System Settings app, clicking Displays → Advanced… and turning on the “Prevent auto-sleep when screen is off” option. The new 2023 Mac Pro is available for sale starting at $6,999.
