Netflix launched ‘Fast Laughs’ on its smartphone apps last year. The feature offered smartphone users short “funny” clips from Netflix’s comedy catalogue. The streaming giant is now also gradually expanding the feature to TV apps.
Netflix has started testing Fast Laughs in the TV app. The company has started rolling out the feature to subscribers in English-speaking countries, including the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
The Fast Laughs feature is currently in testing and is completely optional. Netflix account holders who watch content on their TV can choose to activate Fast Laughs. When this feature is enabled, it will offer funny clips from Netflix series, movies and special comedies. Netflix doesn’t seem to be offering the feature aggressively. Fast Laughs appears “several lines deep” on the homepage.
Fast Laughs will respect the account’s content settings, similar to its smartphone version. Also, it doesn’t appear on all child profiles. If users find something they like, they can choose to watch the entire show or add it to their watchlist.
Fast Laughs is a content discovery tool optimized for recommending comedy shows. It can be seen as another way to help viewers who can’t make up their minds and need the app’s suggestions. Netflix’s seemingly endless loops of content and trailers are two other ways viewers try to help them decide.
