Netflix is testing gamertags that users can create and publicly view while playing games released on the platform. This option will allow Netflix users to present themselves using their own tags and invite other users to games, showcasing where they are in the leaderboard.
Netflix gamertags must be unique, just like usernames in games, and a check is automatically performed by Netflix when the user defines these tags.
When choosing a gamertag, a message is displayed within the app stating that the gamertag must be unique and that your profile icon and gamer name cannot be seen by others. You can change the gamertag at any time. Netflix states that these gamertags will be used when playing games with other users or inviting them to a game. You will also be able to see if the users you want are online.
This new feature is designed to provide a kind of social media experience inside the games.
Netflix spokesperson Kumiko Hidaka said last month that Netflix released Into the Breach, Bowling Ballers, Heads Up! and Mahjong Solitaire, has confirmed that it has started offering game stickers on select games. It is not yet clear when Netflix will expand this option to all games. It is claimed that the company plans to offer this service in a total of 50 games by the end of 2022.
