Netflix, one of the world’s most popular online series and movie platforms, has been busy trying to prevent password sharing for a while. You know; a few friends get together and get a single Netflix account. As a result, the cost is significantly reduced. However, this means loss of revenue for Netflix, and the company continues to work to eliminate it.
In fact, Netflix’s attempts to prevent password sharing have been activated in some countries such as Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain for a while. Users in these countries cannot use the platform jointly as before. Previous statements revealed that this would apply to all Netflix subscribers worldwide in the first quarter of 2023. However, the latest news reveals that there is a delay in Netflix’s plans.
Password sharing ban system will be implemented by July
Netflix also made statements on this issue at the event where it announced the financial situation report for the first quarter of 2023. In the statement, it was stated that the password sharing prevention system was postponed to the second quarter. Accordingly, users will not be able to share passwords on Netflix for any part of the process until July. Of course, if Netflix does not delay the new application once again…
Netflix is happy with the new app
According to the statements made by Netflix, attempts to prevent password sharing led to an increase in the number of subscribers. In fact, the subscriber growth rate in Canada, where the application was launched, is quite high compared to the USA. It seems that Netflix somehow believes it has found the right path and will go all the way with it.
So what kind of system was presented to users in Canada?
Netflix has been offering two options to its subscribers in Canada since February. The first of these options is to use the account only by the owner. The second option is to pay extra. According to this option, the user who owns the account pays an extra $ 6 per month for all other users who are partners to his account. Thus, those who use the account jointly do not need a new Netflix account.
Meanwhile; Netflix has already rolled out some new features related to this. For example, users can move their profiles from one account to another, thanks to a feature called Profile Transfer. In addition, another feature called Access and Manage Devices allows the account holder to take action on other profiles. That’s all, preparation for the new era on Netflix.
