Netflix plans to release a chess game based on its mini-series The Queen’s Gambit, which at the time of publication caused searches for “chess” to hit a 14-year high on Google. It will even add Beth Harmon’s exciting inverted chessboards on the ceiling to this game.
, including the new chess game, Spanish heist thriller La Casa de Papel, also known as Money Heist, fantasy series Shadow & Bone, real-life show Too Hot to Handle, and game show Nailed It The fact that it will be just one of a group of games about Netflix series.
The Queen’s Gambit Chess game and Nailed It!: Baking Bash will be released before the end of 2022, but there are no details for the rest of the time. Netflix says it plans to double the number of games available to around 50 by the end of the year. With this new goal, it’s clear that Netflix wants to offer even more reasons to attract new subscribers by investing in video games included in their standard subscription.
Netflix launched its ad-free games move for mobile devices such as phones and tablets last year at no additional cost to subscribers. The company has 22 mobile games so far, some of which have already been released. Netflix has set big goals in the field of gaming and it is known that it aims to pursue console games for Xbox and PlayStation in the future.
Netflix, meanwhile, is not alone in the gaming business. Amazon, which operates Prime Video, has invested in cloud gaming service Luna and also has its own game studio. Google, the parent company of YouTube, has invested heavily in its own Stadia game streaming service. And Apple, which makes its own movies and TV shows for Apple TV Plus, is trying to get a share of the gaming world with Apple Arcade.
However, Netflix has a special place as it makes both TV shows and movies as well as games part of a single subscription. Other companies offer their gaming services as standalone products, often as a bundle with a bunch of other memberships.
