Netflix, which has expanded its structure with new companies with the purchases it has made in recent months, has now announced that it has acquired the famous Indie game producer Night School Studio.

Night School Studio, which previously made its name with narrative-oriented games such as Oxenfree and Aferparty, has been developing Oxenfree 2 for a while. The sequel to the series will now continue to be developed under the ownership of Netflix.

Netflix made its third purchase in recent months

Netflix, which has been following an aggressive policy in acquiring new companies for a while, has made the third important acquisition in the last period. The company, which bought the famous production company Scott Free Productions in the past months, made another important purchase in September. Netflix made the largest investment in its history, paying a full $680 million for the Roald Dahl Story Company, known for works such as Matilda and James and the Giant Peach.

The famous streaming company has brought its aggressive purchasing policy to the gaming world this time. Night School Studio, the producer of Oxenfree, an election-oriented Indie production released in 2016, will now develop games under the umbrella of Netflix. Making the official statement on the subject, Night School founder Sean Krankel explained that Netflix brings the entertainment industry together with millions of people and that they are excited about the opportunities it will offer them.

Of course, this purchase by Netflix brought some questions with it. Oxenfree 2 has been under development for some time and is expected to be available in 2022. For now, it is a matter of curiosity whether Netflix will make this production exclusive to its own platform.

The game’s simple dialogue system and story-driven narrative are quite similar to Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the interactive series experience Netflix has tried before. In this sense, Oxenfree 2 may be the first game Netflix has published in-house.
