Sodium ion battery manufacturer Natron Energy and low voltage advanced battery technologies manufacturer for mobility Clarios International announced that they have formed a partnership to produce the world’s first mass-produced sodium ion batteries. The companies will start mass production in 2023.
‘Will be the world’s largest’
Natron states that their designs offer a high volumetric power density between lead-acid and lithium-ion, super fast charging 0-99% charge in as little as 8 minutes. He says it makes it possible and has a massive lifespan of over 50,000 cycles. In addition, the company states that it is thermally stable, which ensures safe handling, placement and disposal.
Natron says the batteries they will produce could be used for critical power applications such as data centers and telecom networks, electric vehicles and grid energy storage.

The plant, which will begin construction next year, will be built at the Clarios Meadowbrook facility in Michigan. When production begins in 2023, Natron says it will be the world’s largest sodium-ion battery plant.
