NASA shared information about the launch date of the SLS rocket, for which it completed the ‘wet dress rehearsal’ rehearsals. The rocket, developed as part of the Artemis 1 mission, will be launched between the end of August and the beginning of September.
SLS brought back to assembly building
In an interview with Arstechnica, NASA’s senior reconnaissance officer, Jim Free, said they are working to launch the SLS rocket between August 23 and September 6.
The rocket, whose final test was completed recently, was taken back to the assembly building to remove the test sensors, recharge the batteries and complete the final checks before launch. A gasket in the assembly building will also be replaced, which caused the hydrogen leak that occurred during the final test fuel loading.
Artemis 1, a crewless round trip mission, will lead the crewed Artemis 2 mission. As part of the second mission, the spacecraft with four astronauts will pass close to the Moon and return. In the final mission, Artemis 3, the crew will be transported to the lunar surface.
