Although some people reject the claims of scientists on climate change, this terrible change has already started to happen. Maybe it’s not very convincing when the seas rise 60 cm or the planet gets hotter while sitting on newly built coastlines, but there is a place where we can see how the change in climate affects the world: Space.
NASA researchers are conducting various studies to better understand global warming. The last of these studies is the project called EMIT. Within the scope of this project, the movements of mineral dusts in the atmosphere were examined.
Is dust in the atmosphere effective on global warming?
The Earth Surface Mineral Dust Review mission, called EMIT for short, focuses on Nevada and the Sahara. The movement of mineral-laden dust from these two regions with large deserts in the atmosphere is studied. The reason for choosing these two zones is that the mineral dusts mixed with the atmosphere from these areas have the property of heating or cooling the air around them.
A better understanding of temperature changes on our planet is expected as a result of comparing measurements from the International Space Station with Google Dynamic World data in the first studies. Because until the EMIT research, the effect of particulate dust on the global climate could not be clearly demonstrated.
Kate Calvin, one of the chief scientists of NASA, said in a statement that EMIT offers scientists a deeper understanding of how the Earth warms and cools, revealing how particles ejected from Nevada and the Sahara affect the whole process.
