While space technologies continue to develop rapidly today, NASA has officially announced that humanity will return to the Moon in the near future. The Artemis I mission, which will be the first step of the return to the Moon, which will begin with the Artemis missions, will begin on August 29. NASA has released a trailer-like video for this highly anticipated mission today.
The video prepared for the Artemis I mission included the spacecraft to be used in the mission. Space vehicles in the animated video were NASA’s Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System (SYS) rocket. The video released by NASA was as follows:
Artemis I mission video:
What is the Artemis I task?
Artemis I, which will be the first of the Artemis Moon missions, will be an unmanned mission. In the mission, the Orion spacecraft will be launched into space with SYS, one of the most powerful rockets ever developed. During the mission, which is planned to cover 4-6 weeks, the Orion spacecraft will travel 450,000 kilometers from Earth. Orion will travel on its own without docking to any space station or vehicle, and if all goes well, it will land on Earth.
As part of the Artemis missions, the first manned mission is expected to take place before 2025. Because in the past months, NASA postponed the original target date, which was determined as 2024, to 2025 due to insufficient funds. The agency is targeting at least 10 Moon landings in the future.
