The CineSpace short film competition, organized every year by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and Houston Motion Picture Arts Association, is taking place this year as well. The winner of the competition, where everyone can participate, regardless of experience, whether experienced or novice, will receive the grand prize.

To be able to apply, you must be 18 years or older. Persons under the age of 18 can participate with the signature of their parents or guardians. There is also a second condition: the film must be in English. Films in a different language are also accepted, but a copy with English subtitles must be submitted for review.

The best short film will win 10 thousand dollars

It invites filmmakers, editors and animators from around the world to explore NASA’s digital archives and create short films inspired by and combining real NASA footage.”

Applications will be open until July 15, 2022. Films will be judged on their creativity, innovation, and attention to detail that are hallmarks of space. In addition, its duration should not exceed 10 minutes, and at least 10 percent of it is requested to use images from NASA’s archive.

Top 3 participants will receive great prizes.

    Contest conditions

    • May contain graphics, music, and other production elements found on YouTube. To use NASA footage on YouTube, it must be cleared of third-party materials (i.e., non-NASA content).
    • You may modify, edit, and add special effects and graphics images from NASA as long as any third-party material you use is properly licensed.
    • You can adapt an older short film you’re working on, but your video must be created after January 1, 2020.
    • If your film is in a language other than English, a review copy of your work must be subtitled in English. If you are selected as a Finalist to be screened at the Houston Cinema Arts Festival, you will be required to submit the 1080p version without subtitles and provide the transcript with English subtitles or the SRT file with English subtitles.
    • CineSpace is free of charge to enter. You can send up to 5 short films!
    • If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must submit and sign all paperwork on your behalf.
