Aiming to set foot on the Moon again after a long time, NASA is quite determined despite all the setbacks. The countdown has begun for the Artemis 1 mission, which will represent the first major test for humanity’s return to the Moon. The spacecraft, which will be sent unmanned this time, faces a new surprise in the launch system. According to the news, NASA will also include the iPad device.

NASA will send iPad to the Moon with the ‘Callisto’ system

In the coming months, NASA is fulfilling its goal, which has not been realized since the end of the Apollo program in 1970. While awaiting the realization of this huge project, the space agency will carry out the first test phase. Since it is the first stage, there will be no people inside the rocket in this test.

According to the latest news, NASA plans to send the iPad to the Moon for testing. The reason why NASA included the iPad in the launch system is that the tests on the Amazon Alexa voice assistant are carried out inside the Orion spacecraft. Thus, it is claimed that voice commands will transmit information about the spacecraft faster.

This system, created by the cooperation between Lockheed Martin and NASA, is called ‘Callisto’. In this way, there will be a customized hardware and tablet in the middle of the Orion console. In addition, the WebEx video conferencing service will also prefer Alexa to broadcast video and audio from the control center.

The space agency aims to have a spatial chat with Alexa with the new system. Although Artemis 1 is said to have all the technology to return to the Moon, the new system is interesting to many. In addition, Howard Hu, assistant director of the Orion program at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, made a statement about the new system. “He can imagine a future where astronauts can receive information about flight status and telemetry such as spacecraft direction, water supply level or battery voltage status with simple voice commands.”

In addition, NASA talked about the difficulty of testing Alexa in a spacecraft orbiting the Moon. According to the space agency, the test will be even more difficult than at home with the Echo speaker and WiFi. Many people state that this test would be easier if there were people inside the rocket.
