The first of NASA’s Artemis missions, which will carry humanity back to the Moon, began in November 2022. While the first two missions will be carried out unmanned, the third mission will aim for astronauts to set foot on the Moon again.
Although the first details about the clothes that the astronauts will wear on this mission were shared in the past months, its design and final form were not shown. But today the expected announcement came. NASA showed its new astronaut suits at the event it held at the Houston Space Center.
Humanity will set foot on the Moon in these clothes after 50 years:
The suit, developed by NASA and the private space company Axiom Space, is currently in the prototype stage. Therefore, we can expect the design we saw above to be partially changed until the third task.
These outfits were worn on the last Moon mission in 1972:
What will the costume offer to the astronauts?
NASA’s new astronaut suit will offer mobility and flexibility that has not been achieved in suits used to date. In addition, the suit will fit 90% of US male and female citizens, according to NASA’s statement. This will relatively eliminate the need for astronauts to follow special training and nutrition programs to wear the suit.
The life support systems, pressure underwear and electronic systems to be found in the suit will continue to be developed by Axiom Space. All processes such as the design, development, certification, production and flight training of the suit are entrusted to Axiom Space.
When is the Artemis III mission?
An exact date cannot be given for the Artemis III mission. But NASA plans to complete the mission in 2025.
