NASA will send four astronauts to the Moon with the Artemis II mission in 2024!
NASA recently held an event at Ellington Field, near the Johnson Space Center in Houston. During this event, he announced the astronauts who will go to the Moon with the Artemis II mission together with the CSA.
Four astronauts will be passengers with Artemis II, the first crewed mission to establish a long-term presence on the Moon. These names are as follows: Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilos Victor Glover, Mission Specialist 1 Christina Hammock Koch and Mission Specialist 2 Jeremy Hansen.
A flight test will take place for the subject. The Artemis II flight test, which is approximately 10 days old, will begin on the Space Launch System rocket. It will also prove the life support system of the Orion spacecraft, validating techniques for human survival in space.
François-Philippe Champagne, who is in charge of the Canadian Space Agency, made a statement on the subject. “We are returning to the moon and Canada is at the center of this exciting journey. Thanks to our longstanding cooperation with NASA, a Canadian astronaut will fly on this historic mission. (…)”
The flight, which is expected to be completed in December, builds on the Artemis I mission. This program will pave the way for long-term manned reconnaissance missions. The agency’s next target after the Moon is Mars. NASA Johnson Director Vanessa Wyche also made a statement regarding the flight in question.
“For the first time in over 50 years, these will be the first humans to fly around the Moon. The crew includes the first woman, the first black, and the first Canadian to go on a Moon mission. All four astronauts will represent the best of humanity as they explore for the benefit of all.”
