USA – The forestry administration of the Shasta-Trinity region in Northern California announced on social media that a shipwreck was discovered when the waters of Lake Shasta receded. The announcement said, “There is a mysterious situation here. The code 31-17 appears on the ship. This code was reserved for the assault ship USS Monrovia.”

Monrovia ship, II. It was used as the floating headquarters of General George S. Patton during the invasion of Sicily in World War II. Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of America, also served on the ship during that period and in subsequent wars.

“This ship also served during the 6-day invasion in the Pacific, sank in shallow waters at the battle of Tarawa,” the Shasta-Trinity National forestry administration wrote on Facebook.

The ship was later salvaged by the US during the Japanese occupation of the Gilbert Islands and sold for scrap in 1969. And this is where the mystery begins. No one knows exactly what the ship was looking for in the USA, and moreover, at the bottom of a lake. According to estimates, whoever bought the scrap metal of the boat tried to float it, but failed.

Discovered last fall, the ship is now protected and will soon be on display at a museum in Nebraska.
