Some thinkers argue that it is wrong to wait for inspiration to come and we should chase it. The designers of a Dutch architectural company set out with this thought and began to chase inspiration. During this chase, they came across an object that would present the design they were looking for for their new project: the Bowl.
This museum, named ‘Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen’, has managed to attract the attention of the whole world with its unusual structure for a building. The inspiration for the building, which is approximately 40 meters high and surrounded by mirrored glass, was a bowl. Architect Winy Maas explained how a bowl inspired a project worth approximately 94 million euros.
Getting inspired by the salad bowl:
Maas, an architect at MVRDV, who brought the building to real life, stated that the trainees thought of a large rectangular block for the structure. Thinking this shape was too rude, Maas considered moving to a more polite shape. Then, Maas, who received a bowl made of stainless steel that reflects the surroundings like a mirror, thus got the idea.
The structure, built in this way, started to take place in Instagram selfies with its extraordinary shape even on its first day. Thus, the design of the building brought the recognition and popularity of the building to the next level. The fact that the building is a museum has also benefited from this increasing popularity and has managed to positively affect the number of visitors.
The museum in the extraordinary building hosts approximately 150,000 exhibits. The museum, which is called the world’s first public art warehouse, includes a 172-year-old collection. All works of art are displayed in sections set with five different climatic conditions.
