Although AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors are seen as quite successful, these sales figures are not reflected at least as much as expected. Because AMD’s new AM5 socket platform is far from attracting users due to expensive motherboards and DDR5 memory. The new A620 motherboards may change the situation.

Since the AM5’s launch, none of the motherboard manufacturers have lived up to AMD’s promised $125 pricing. While the high-end X670 and X670E were quite expensive, most of the B650 motherboards, which were expected to be more affordable, still failed to deliver what was expected. In fact, the AM4 platform started to look even more attractive when motherboard prices emerged. Because users did not want to spend on a new processor, new motherboard, new DDR5 memory and even a new cooler.

Cheap AM5 A620 motherboards are coming in February

AMD introduced its 65W Ryzen 7000 series processors earlier this month. Processors that do not belong to this X family have entered the market as a nice alternative. The AMD A620 chipset has yet to be officially announced, but AMD has promised that a cheaper AM5 solution will be available to consumers in February. Some of these motherboards have already surfaced on Goofish:
  • ASUS TUF GAMING A620M-PLUS D5
  • GIGABYTE A620M D3H
  • GIGABYTE A620M DS3H
  • GIGABYTE A620M S2H
  • GIGABYTE A620M H
  • GIGABYTE A620MK
AMD’s current AM5 motherboards are far from the company’s “$125 starting price” target. Currently, the cheapest B650 motherboards sell for around $160. On the other hand, we do not have much information about the A620 chipset. However, this chipset is expected to come with fewer PCIe lanes, less I/O and missing PCIe Gen5 support. It will also likely not be overclocked like the previous generation. But these are just rumors, AMD has not officially confirmed them.
