As you know, the 16-pin 12VHPWR connectors that power the Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card received harsh criticism due to various melting and burning problems. So much so that Nvidia, which investigated the existing problems and confirmed 50 cases, said that users connected the adapters incorrectly. Today, new cases continue to occur. Now it turns out that MSI is working on a practical solution, at least for modular power supplies.

MSI solves melting RTX 4090 power connectors

Visiting the MSI booth as part of the Computex 2023 event, PCWorld discovered an interesting detail in MSI’s MAG 850GL PCIe Gen5 ATX3.0 model power supply. When we look at the images shared by PCWorld, we see that a yellow section has been added to the input of the new cables, indicating whether the connector is inserted correctly.

The idea here is very simple, if the yellow part is visible, it means that the cable is not connected correctly. Therefore, the cable needs to be seated until only the black part is visible.

We can say that the new design change brings a fast and practical solution to the connection problems experienced in 12VHPWR power connectors. As a matter of fact, it does not require a major change in connector design, while ensuring that the cables are inserted correctly. It is not yet known whether the new connectors will be available separately from the PSU.
