MSI introduces the world’s first USB-4 add-on card
According to the shared details, the PCIe USB4 card includes two DisplayPort ports and two USB-C outputs, one of which can provide up to 100W of power at a transfer rate of 40Gb/s. Also, MSI has confirmed that the primary USB-C port will offer fast charging support. The second output will offer up to 27W of power. We can say that the 100W value offered over DP will be enough for tablets, handheld consoles and even thin laptops.
Returning to the card, it is supported via a 6-pin connector, similar to the MS-4489 graphics cards. The physical PCIe interface is x8. But it only uses the x4 line. MSI did not share any information about the release date or price of the add-on card. However, we think that all the details will be answered in the coming weeks.
It should also be noted that this is not the only product introduced at Computex 2023. Other technologies showcased include new Z790 motherboards with Wi-Fi 7 support, a voice-changing app, 6GB/s mesh router, new RTX 4060 Ti graphics cards, 49-inch 240Hz QD-OLED monitor (resolution unknown), and Meteor Lake CPU powered Prestige 16 laptop models are included.
