Today, mid and high-end Intel processors are released in two different versions, locked (non-K) and unlocked (K-series). Thus, users with a K series processor and Z series motherboard can overclock their systems. However, this may change with the new MSI B760 series motherboards.

MSI B760 motherboards can offer overclocking on locked processors

Looking at the shared image, we see that the Intel Core i5-12400 is overclocked to 5GHz with the MSI B760M Mortar Max motherboard. The value in question represents a 14 percent increase compared to the processor’s base frequency of 4.4GHz. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether this development will apply to Intel’s locked 13th generation processors.

Intel is expected to announce the non-K Raptor Lake lineup and accompanying mid-range motherboards at its upcoming CES 2023 event. The new motherboards will support both 12th and 13th Gen Intel processors, as well as DDR5 and DDR4 options.
